Packaging for Category A infectious substances must be certified by an independent laboratory as meeting the applicable triple packaging regulations of IATA (for air shipments) and DOT (for domestic ground shipments). In general, the required triple packaging includes: leak-proof 95 kPa primary receptacle(s); leak-proof 95 kPa (14psi) secondary packaging; absorbent material of sufficient quantity to absorb the entire contents of the primary receptacle(s); an itemized list of contents; and a properly labeled shipping carton.
